Last year, Samsung was met with the unprecedented recall of its Galaxy Note 7 following multiple reports of the device catching fire. Samsung has been working on repairing its reputation after the Note 7 fiasco. The company took steps to accomplishing that goal when it launched the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus this year.
Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with tons of improvements and changes compared to its predecessors. The screen is brilliant, offering the best experience ever ranging from watching movies to playing games. Design is just stunning with curved infinity display, all made possible by a powerful processor and Android 7.0 Nougat. If you are planning to grab a new Samsung Galaxy S8, make sure that you check out our review below.
1. Design and display
Samsung Galaxy S8 is the best looking smartphone we have ever seen in recent years. What sets the S8 apart from other competitors in the market is its Infinity Display. With Infinity Display, the Galaxy S8 offers grander view, while ensuring that it fits perfectly in your hand, making it much easier to hold and use.
The S8 sports a 1440p Super AMOLED display, with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio that’s similar to the 18:9 screen found on the current LG G6. The S8’s display is simply stunning, with rich colors and excellent viewing angles, making it the best tool for watching movies.
As for design, the glass and metal combine perfectly in one complete piece, giving users the most beautiful smartphone Samsung has ever made. The device includes glass back, curved edges and perfectly constructed metal sides. Home and back buttons are entirely gone, instead replaced with software navigation keys. The home button is now pressure sensitive, and you now can use it both as a software and a hardware button. Besides, the S8 also comes with IP 68 rating for water and dust resistance, and Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5
2. Performance and battery
Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is powered by either Samsung’s own Exynos 8895 chipset or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. Both are among the fastest CPUs in the market, thus giving the S8 a huge boost in performance when compared to the S7. There is 4GB of RAM and the device has 64 GB of internal storage (expandable up to 256GB via microSD cards).
The S8 also comes with Bluetooth 5.0, which allows you to pair up to two Bluetooth-enabled devices to the handset and play music through both of them at the same time.
If you are a big fan of games, you will be happy to know that the Galaxy S8 includes the Mali G71 (for the Exynos model) and the Adreno 540 (for the Snapdragon 835 model). The latest GPUs allow games and apps to load quickly, thus offering the best gaming performance ever. There is also a 3000mAh battery on board that lasts through a day and supports quick charging.
The camera has seen the fewest upgrades. There is no dual-sensor system and no wide-angle lens here. Instead, the device features a single 12-megapixel sensor with the Dual Pixel tech, just like the S7.
Noticeably, the S8 comes with a new multi-frame image processor that allows users to take three shots every time they snap. The front-facing camera is excellent, allowing for well-balanced photos even in the low-light conditions.
Basically, the S8’s camera is great, capturing excellent photos in most conditions. Besides, the Camera app offers enough options and controls that fit most users’ needs.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is undoubtedly the most desired smartphone out there thanks to its stunning design, high-end specs and excellent camera performance. However, there is still something missing like lack of USB-PD, or the device only runs Android 7.0 Nougat at launch.
