The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus have finally landed on the market. The S8 and S8 Plus are among the best smartphones Samsung has ever released to the public thanks to their 5.8-inch near edge-to-edge display, excellent camera performance and impressive features.

Samsung has not just upgraded the hardware, they have introduced new things – infinity display, Bixby, wireless charging, facial recognition and much more. While some new features are obvious to see, there are a lot of little things that are hidden from your sight.

In this post, we will show you some essential tips and tricks for your Samsung Galaxy S8 so you can truly master your device.

1. Use fingerprint scanner to access the Notifications tab

Fingerprint sensors are an increasingly common feature on high-end smartphones. With Galaxy S8, fingerprint scanner is not restricted to unlocking your phone. There is a lesser-known gesture on the S8 that allows you to pull down the Notifications tab without reaching the top of the display.

You now can access the Notifications window by simply swiping down on the biometric sensor. To enable this feature, head to Settings, tap on Advanced Feature, select Finger sensor gestures and tap on the switch.

2. Customize Edge panel

Those curved edges are undoubtedly one of the highlights of the Galaxy S8. Samsung has improved them so much, expanding their usefulness just beyond being a small panel that pops out from the edge of the curved screen. They offer quick access to hidden features and shortcuts to your favorite apps and most frequently called numbers.

Samsung now allows you to easily customize your Edge panel to your liking. Specifically, you can change the type and quantity of content you will see from the edge of the curved screen using a number of pre-installed Edge Panels like weather or live sports.

3. Split-screen multitasking

Split-screen multitasking is not something new when it comes to Samsung devices. However, the Galaxy S8 offers an exceptional multitasking experience thanks to Infinity display. Basically, you can run two apps side by side on your Galaxy S8. This means that you can scroll through posts on Facebook while browsing the web.

To access split-screen multitasking, you first need to tap on the “Recents” button at the bottom of the screen and then hit the multitasking tab on your open apps. Once you enter the split screen view, you can easily resize an app window that’s too big or small for the screen.

4. Google Assistant

Samsung’s virtual assistant, Bixby is marketed as one of the highlights in the Galaxy S8, but it is not fully ready when Samsung ships the phone globally. That’s where Google Assistant comes to the rescue.

Google Assistant comes bundled with Android Nougat, allowing you to perform a lot of tasks, access certain features and make online searches using your voice. Once you have already set up Google Assistant on your device, you can activate it by long pressing the soft key home button.

5. Smart Lock

There are three ways to unlock your Galaxy S8 including fingerprint scanner, facial recognition and iris scanner. However, if you find those biometric security measures annoying, you can use Smart Lock. Basically, the feature will automatically unlock your phone in certain situations. Here is how to enable Smart Lock on the Galaxy S8.

Step one: First off, open Settings on your device and then tap on Lock screen and security

Step two: Enter your unlock code. After that, select your option and configure your Smart Lock settings.
